2015 Highlights!

Posted: January 7, 2016

The FSRS has a lot to be proud of, here are a few of our accomplishments from the last year:

  • We hosted another successful Annual Conference and AGM in February. Read all about it in last winter's Hook, Line and Thinker.
  • Last July we launched our Facebook page and have since built a community of over 100. This is a great platform for our members to share ocean related news from their communities. If you haven't already done so, like the page today! This was the first step taken to better communication with our members and we followed with our improved Hook, Like and Thinker format in September that is both web and mobile friendly. Keep an eye on your inbox and catch up on FSRS news from wherever you are!
  • We received important funding in 2015 that allowed us to continue undertaking the crucial research we do. Continued support from Fisheries and Oceans Canada went towards our core project and funding received through the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture allowed us to continue the important research involved in the Lobster Moult and Quality project and the Lobster Settlement Collector project.
  • And of course, the FSRS underwent an important management transition in August as we welcomed Shannon and Tricia to new roles. They have both continued to lead the FSRS in a positive direction and we know we can expect great things for 2016!

Moving forward!

  • We are really looking forward to our 23rd Annual Conference and AGM happening on February 25. Join us to hear talks on inshore ocean temperatures, the potential effects of climate change on lobster larvae and much more! Students are encouraged to participate in our poster display. Fill out the form and submit it to info@fsrs.ns.ca.
  • We will be working on our Strategic Plan for the next 5 years and we are looking for your suggestions. Let us know how we can make the Fishermen and Scientists Research Society better for our members and our supporters. Please feel free to sent your thoughts to info@fsrs.ns.ca.
  • We will be updating the FSRS logo this year. Stay tuned for our logo design contest!

All of this, and more, is made possible thanks to our membership and supporters - that's you!

To ensure that we can continue to contribute to important research and deliver quality conferences and workshops, make sure you register to attend our 23rd Annual Conference on February 25th, 2016. Know of someone who would like to sponsor the conference? Let us know!

We are proud to continue to offer a free membership. To ensure our sustainability, consider donating to the FSRS today. Every dollar makes a difference.

Here's to another great year! And don't forget to let us know what you would like to see from us.
